WHAT WE DO

  • Encourage, celebrate, support and promote youth volunteerism
  • Mobilize young people to be active community members, both  now and in the future
  • Lead the community in recognizing and celebrating youth
  • Educate young people on the value of volunteering and how to become involved
  • Support youth-led volunteer projects
  • Promote youth volunteerism to community organizations

HOW WE DO IT

  • Provide accessible “Youth Volunteer Information” in schools, community locations and online
  • Provide current Youth Volunteer Listings  to help young people find specific volunteer opportunities within the Strathcona community
  • Class presentations to students (kindergarten—grade 12) to educate and create awareness
  • Coordinate & initiate youth-led service projects in our community
  • Celebrate and promote youth volunteerism year round, especially during National Volunteer Week
  • Partner with youth-friendly community groups to create initiatives that foster youth involvement
  • Supply certificates, confirmation letters, referrals and references to celebrate youth volunteer accomplishments and aid in further initiatives.

WHY WE DO IT

  • To reinforce the belief that young people do care about their community
  • To show that young people will respond to a community need when given the opportunity, with energy, enthusiasm and new ideas
  • To provide the encouragement, support and opportunity for youth volunteer involvement
  • To provide young people the opportunity to discover and display their skills and abilities as they explore their responsibility to make a difference in the world
  • To validate for young people that this is their community
  • To inspire a new generation of volunteers
  • To emphasize youth-led community service
  • To mobilize an enthusiastic and energetic group of young volunteers
