Strathcona County residents volunteer 7.9 million hours a year Posted on Apr 12, 2018 in
SHERWOOD PARK, AB (April 12, 2018) – An innovative new way to calculate the value of volunteers was released by Propellus (formerly Volunteer Calgary) on behalf of volunteer centres around the province. This calculation shows that Strathcona County residents have volunteered approximately 7.9 million hours over the last year.
This calculation allows organizations across the province to use similar comparatives on volunteerism and the Alberta provincial government will be calculating the value of volunteerism using this method.
Using this calculation, the 7.9 million hours donated by volunteers in the County last year would equate to a value of around $224.8 million or equivalent to 4,352 full-time jobs (based on 35-hour work week).
“It has always been a struggle in the volunteer sector to find concrete ways of expressing the value of volunteers in our community,” says Judy Ferguson, Executive Director of IVC.
