Rules, Regulations and Information

PHOTO NEEDS & RULES

Photos must be taken by residents of Strathcona County of people volunteering in Strathcona County, either informally or with an organization.

Every photo must be submitted in one of 2 ways:
1. via email in digital format
or
2. drop off the actual photo in 5X7 size at the Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County

Every photo submitted via email must be of good quality and have high quality available if chosen as a winner. It must be sent as a .jpeg, no larger than 1.5 MB, maximum 1500 pixels in length and maximum 72 dpi. Those who are declared first or second place in the photo contest will be asked for a higher resolution photo.

The winning entrants may be asked for a higher quality resolution photo for the purposes of printing better quality prints.

Every photo must include people in the photo.

Every photo must be accompanied by a title and a short description of the activities taking place and the organization depicted if it is a formal volunteer activity.

Every photo submitted will be displayed publicly during National Volunteer Week 2010.

Photos will not be returned to entrants.

By participating in this contest, the entrant represents and warrants that: the photo does not include any material that is libelous, defamatory, profane, or obscene; the photo is original and owned solely by the entrant; and the photo does not infringe on the intellectual property of any third party.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for this contest, an individual must:

Be a legal resident of Strathcona County Alberta or work in Strathcona County or volunteer for an organization in Strathcona County;

Be an amateur photographer;

Be the sole owner of the Photo(s) submitted;

To be eligible the photographs may not be entered by an employee or volunteer of the Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County and cannot be a member of his or her family.

HOW TO ENTER & ENTRY RULES

Every entry must be accompanied by an Entry Form that includes complete information; a media release form and a copy of the photo as photo rules permit.

Limit of three photos per entrant.

All entries must be accompanied by media release forms or will be considered ineligible.

Media Release forms must include the names of all people whose faces are identifiable in the photo as well as the name and signature of the photographer.

All entries (including the photo), become the sole property of the Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County and will not be returned for any reason.

Only those chosen as winners will be contacted.

PRIZES

First Prize: There will be one First Prize in each age category. The prize will be $150.00 Sherwood Park Mall Gift Certificate.

Second Prize: There will be one second prize in each age category. The prize will be $50.00 Sherwood Park Mall Gift Certificate.

Special Prize: Each organization (maximum 2) depicted (in the each age category) winning photo will receive a $100.00 Tim Horton’s gift certificate to use for their volunteers or as they see fit. If the photo is of an informal volunteer activity, the winner will have this gift card donated to the Strathcona County non-profit organization of their choice.

Special Notes:
Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, assigned, or redeemed for cash. They will be Sherwood Park Mall Gift Certificates.
Prizes must be picked up at the Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County office or another designated location. Prize will not be shipped.

CONTEST PERIOD

The contest begins at noon (MST) February 19, 2010 and ends at noon (MST) on April 8, 2010 after which the Contest will be closed and no further entries shall be accepted.

WINNER SELECTION

Four Winners shall be selected as follows:

There will be 2 age categories for entrants. The first is youth 17 and under as of April 30, 2010 and the second is adult age 18 and up as of May 1, 2010.

There will be 2 prizes for each age category.

The four entrants will be selected by the Judging Panel on or about Thursday April 15, 2010. Each entrant shall be eligible to win only one prize.

The odds of being selected a winner will depend on the number of eligible entries received.

Winning entrants will be notified by telephone no later than Monday April 19, 2010.

Winners will be selected by a judge panel. The photo winner will be selected with the following criteria: photographic content and merit, emotional connection to the photographic image, and artistic merit, clarity and quality of the photo.

The decisions of the judges shall be final and binding and may not be challenged in any way.

PRIVACY/USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION/PHOTO RIGHTS

By participating in the contest; the entrant grants to the sponsors the right to use his/her name, mailing address, telephone number and email address for the purpose of administering the Contest, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the winners.

The entrant grants the use and reproduction of this photo to the Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County for usage how they see fit. This may or may not include newspaper coverage, social medias and website.

TERMINATION/ENTRY CHANGES

The Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to terminate the photo contest, in whole or in part, at any time, for any reason without prior notice.
