Experience the joy of volunteering.

Home Helper
You don’t have to leave home to be a volunteer – help out around the house! Sort the laundry, wash the dishes, mow the lawn, or shovel the sidewalks. Walk the dog, brush the cat, feed the fish, read to your baby sister or brother. Be helpful at home.

Reading Assistant
See if your library needs a volunteer to help with their reading program. You could make a poster about a character in a book, read stories to toddlers or people with impaired vision. See if you could read to seniors at your local seniors’ centre.

Animal Helper
Volunteer to walk dogs or help out at the humane society or wildlife shelter. You could organize a pet food collection for your local food bank or animal shelter.

Arts and Crafts
Arrange a student art show and sale at your school with items made by you and your friends. The funds collected can be donated to your favorite charity. Or, have your whole class paint pictures, put the pictures in simple frames and donate them to a local senior’s centre.

Entertainment
Are you a talented performer? Do you love to sing, dance, or act? Practice your talent and offer to do a performance (play or talent show) for a local nursing home, daycare or playschool.

Garden Fun
Volunteer to help with a community garden, or grow a row of vegetables in your backyard to donate to a food bank. How about offering your services to a neighbour who requires help with their gardening?

Outdoor cleanup
Help clean up a local playground or schoolyard. See if you can organize your whole class or a group of friends to help. Don’t forget to always be safe and ask a parent or an adult to supervise. Gloves are a must. Bring some music along and turn it into a fun get-together with your friends.

Family Pet Volunteer
Do you have a well-trained, friendly family pet? People love to interact with animals – and dogs love to be the centre of attention! You and your pet could volunteer to visit a local senior’s centre or a hospital.

Special Events/Road Races
Check out your community calendar for special event listings and contact the organizers to see if there are any volunteer opportunities. Maybe you could help at a water station for a local road race or help with some activities at a festival or fair.

Event Decorator
Offer to make holiday decorations at a local care facility or group home. Get the residents involved and have some fun! Use your imagination!

Sports Fans
Organize a sporting event to raise funds for a local charity. Hockey, baseball, soccer – whatever your favorite sport – everybody wins!
