About the Youth Program

The IVC Youth Volunteer Program has been established for over a decade now. We encourage, celebrate and support youth volunteerism.

What are we?

We are a sponsored IVC (Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County) initiative designed for ALL youth. We provide information on volunteer driven activities and service learning programs to young people in the community.

Why do we do it?

Because we believe that young people care and, given the opportunity, they will respond to community needs with enthusiasm, energy, and new ideas.

Community involvement builds self-esteem, reinforces caring attitudes, enhances academic performance, and provides a means of exploring careers. Volunteer activity encourages young people to develop the leadership and citizenship skills, values, and attitudes that they will need to build positive futures.

How do we help?

We provide education, presentations, and one-on-one counseling to teachers, parents, and students who want to get involved. We also sponsor the Youth Page in the Strathcona County newspaper to promote youth volunteerism, and provide awareness and initiatives to foster youth involvement in the community. We actively encourage local business and citizens to foster volunteerism among young people.
